Director of Purchasing
The Director of Purchasing will lead the Purchasing responsibilities for Barilla America, Inc. for ingredients, finished products and package materials purchasing. This individual will strengthen Barilla’s cost competitiveness and support business growth strategies through leveraging purchasing power.
Major responsibilities for this position are:
- Define and implement purchasing strategies: level of integration, suppliers’ basis, type of contracts (short or long term) in order to support current needs and future growth strategies.
- For each category of purchase, develop an analysis of: markets (demand- availability trends), company’s portfolio, pricing, competitors and use the data to improve overall purchasing performance.
- Contract negotiation with 3rd party suppliers including co-packers, and define requirement for purchase orders.
- Establish pricing and performance standards with suppliers, always seeking ingredients that possess the highest quality at the best price, building strong relationships with our supplier base.
- Continuous search of alternative suppliers, to maintain adequate alternatives that allow us to achieve the best quality, service and price.
- Develop and implement cost saving projects through change of specifications, suppliers and strategies.
- Oversee the correct and timely administration of all general data, including pricing, primary and secondary suppliers, and contract status. Work as liaison to Finance for semi-annual true-ups and issue resolution.
- Annual budget management and preparation of all necessary reporting including variances.
- Identify benchmarking data tools and monitor major market trends through interaction with external resources (associations, institutions, media, specialized literature)
Support Corporate Quality Assurance in vendor management and certification.
- Participate in business teams including project development, working closely with Marketing and R&D.
- Support the plants in the energy purchase activity, evaluating alternatives of supply and negotiating contracts.
- Work in close contact with multiple plant locations to support resolution of major non-conformities, supply issues, evaluation of alternatives.
- Identify and implement proper supplier basis and cost optimization over indirect materials and services.
- Support the Purchasing global team over global purchasing strategies and category management with leverage on global markets and global supplies.
- Support the CSR plans over suppliers chains.
- Strengthen our cost competitiveness by identifying cost improvement opportunities and materializing related savings.
- Ensure continuity of supply and reliability of suppliers’ portfolios.
- Support project development over existing and new business categories.
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, MBA a plus. A track record of accomplishments with proven results will compliment your portfolio.
- Ten to fifteen years’ experience in Purchasing, with a minimum of 5 years within the consumer products industry; multinational company is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of the raw materials and co-packing supplier basis and contract management.
- Knowledge of the energy market and key indirect categories is a plus.
- Excellent negotiation skills, with experience in pricing and contracts management (including drafting contracts, in close contact with internal counsel).
- Technical experience in at least one area of packaging a plus (i.e. working with glass, cartons, etc.).
- Successfully lead multiple projects across multiple disciplines (Marketing, Supply Chain, etc.) with proven results.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent ability to build and maintain cross-functional working relationships with Marketing, R&D, Sales and Finance.
- Excellent analytical & problem solving skills.
- Excellent capabilities to work on a global purchasing team with high-level interaction with Headquarters.

Administrative Assistant
The Administrative Assistant (Supply Chain) is responsible for administrative support to the Operations department. The scope of the position is roughly 50% administrative support (expense reports, travel arrangements, meeting planning, attendance, presentation preparation) and 50% other support to the department including support of product lifecycle management (PLM) activity, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and scorecards, and other project work as required.
Major responsibilities for this position are:
- Prepares expense reports for authorization and processing
- Maintains department budget and submits authorized invoices for payment processing
- Arranges for travel for department employees and within the Travel Policy guidelines
- Maintains and updates as needed department time off tracking process
- Prepares correspondence for department as needed
- Filing, scheduling, faxing and scanning as needed
- Schedules, organizes and executes activities such as meetings and department activities for all members of the department and required materials
- Acts as a liaison with other departments, vendors and outside agencies; handles confidential and non-routine information
- Develops general correspondences, memos, charts, tables, graphs, business plans, presentations, etc.
- Provide assistance to main line phone system and other administrative staff as needed
Supports the daily processing of co-packer purchase orders
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
- High School degree; college degree a plus
- Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload
- A minimum of 3 years in an administrative support role
- Intermediate level of experience using a variety of computer software applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); Visio and Access a plus
- Proficiency in use of systems and technology -- SAP or other ERP experience a significant plus
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations
- Ability to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to administrative problems and prioritize workload
- Continuous attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
